This year, I participated in the Erasmus+ program and visited the UC Limburg-Leuven at their Diepenbeek campus. I offered the course Risk Management with Excel and 20 students attended class.
The visit in Belgium was just great! First of all: the Belgians are extremely friendly and hospitably people! I had a warm welcome at the university and everybody was really caring. I felt integrated from the first day on.
The syllabus was based on 15 hours, which were distributed on four days: on Monday, we started with time value of money and bond pricing, on Tuesday, we covered the basic risk and return measures, and on Wednesday until Thursday we took a look at the CAPM and Portfolio Selection. I am very proud of my class since they have been very disciplined and motivated despite the short time. But the feedback has shown me that they also enjoyed the course — as I did!
On top of that, Hasselt is a beautiful city and ideally located: if somebody wants to discover more, e.g. Brussels, Maastricht, or Liège are not far away. In my short time, I only had the time for a short visit in Brussels, which is a must see!
In conclusion, I really enjoyed my stay and hopefully I may return some day in the future. I would also be very happy if students decide to visit HSBA and of course, I can absolutley recommend UCLL Diepenbeek for a semester abroad!
